Godot
|
|
Presented by Naga Naga
|
|
Devised after a study
of Waiting For Godot, an original script written in French in 1948
by Samuel Beckett. You will see the translation of Godot into
various symbols, primarily of hope, death, salvation and the
divine. Using these symbols, Naga Naga attempts to visualise and
evoke Godot in his elements, doing away with the concept of drama,
chronological plot, logical language, themes, and recognisable
settings. Naga Naga first performed at The Substation's Septfest
1999. For more information, email dhavusya@singnet.com.sg.

Conversation II - Do You Love Me? - by
Aporia Society
|
|
Presented by The
Substation
|
|
Voices in the
room, disembodied sounds ... desperation, need, people. Walk
into a room full of strangers talking ... walk into a living
room, a family, walk into a cafeteria, walk into a bar, walk
into a bedroom, a prison ... who are they, what are they
talking about ... who knows. |
|
A woman waiting
for a phone call, a man waiting for the perfect partner, a
daughter waiting for an opportunity, a son wanting to be
free, a lover who wants everything. |
|
Walk into a bare
room with nothing but voices and people, no props, no
gesticulation, no drama, just people. Listen to them speak,
because what they say may just speak to you. |

Birdsongs
& Other Pieces
- The Music & Lyrics of Marc CHAN Yew Jin
|
|
With The Reverie
String Quartet - Clement LIM (violin), WONG Yeang Chuan (guitar),
Tracy CHIA (alto), Nadia TAN (soprano), Dawn WONG (Alto).
|
|
"Birdsongs &
Other Pieces" is the debut concert of young Singaporean
composer and lyricist Marc CHAN Yew Jin. The title piece, a fusion
between the classical art song and musical theatre, is a song cycle
that celebrates the most enviable aspect of birds - flight. And
coincident with that idea is the idea of freedom. Some of the songs
are settings of text by various poets, such as Maya Angelou and
Alfian Sa'at. The other songs that complete the cycle have original
lyrics by Marc. The evening will also see the premiere of
instrumental works written in the past year. These include a suite
of three pieces for toy piano, a romance for violin and piano, and
four nocturnes for guitar. |
