AnimaXtion 04 is the mega year-end animation event organised by the Media Development Authority (MDA).

Featuring two public events - AnimaXtion Fair and AnimaXtion Symposium - AnimaXtion 04 is where fans, professionals and hobbyists can meet to enjoy and celebrate animation as an entertainment as well as an art form.

AnimaXtion Fair

The excitement begins with AnimaXtion Fair, a four-day extravaganza from 25 to 28 November 2004, 11am to 9pm, at Hall 5 Singapore Expo, 1 Expo Drive, admission free.

There is something for everyone at the AnimaXtion Fair, with a wide range of activities packed with fun and interaction. Enthusiasts can look forward to cutting-edge animation software and hardware, media schools offering comprehensive animation courses, toys and merchandise, publications and everything in between.

Comic fans will also be enthralled by the wide selection of titles and a host of merchandise such as animated figurines and other memorabilia that will be on sale during the Fair.

For those interested in picking up the art form as a hobby, it will be where you can meet and connect with people who share the same passion. Hobbyist clubs will display illustrated works and also share tips of the craft.

At the AnimaXtion Theatre, fans can feast their eyes on a buffet of original digital media projects, produced by local media companies.

A preview showcase will be lined up with the latest pilot episodes and unreleased works: these include Nanoboy from Scrawl Studio, an original animated series about a microscopic superhero who fights off germs and other villains too small for the naked eye, and Tao Shu – The Warrior Boy from Peach Blossom Media, a new animation series that revolves around Tao Shu and his alter ego Warrior Boy as they embark on amazing adventures in his own backyard.

Workshops where you can experience the actual animation production process will also be held. Media experts will be on hand to demonstrate the finer points of manipulating animation software and devices.

Other activities include the Cosplay Character Show where anime and manga fans will grace the stage with their elaborate costumes and performances.

AnimaXtion Symposium

AnimaXtion Symposium comes next on 30 November 2004, 7.30pm to 10pm, at Hall 5 Cathay Cineplex Orchard, Level 6, Cathay Cineleisure Orchard, 8 Grange Road.

Tickets at $6.50 are available at the Cathay Cineplex Orchard box office (Level 5) from 15 November 2004.

Definitely not an experience to be missed, the AnimaXtion Symposium is the place where aspiring artistes can pose questions to guest speakers, while fans will enjoy yet-to-be released works.

Acclaimed producers like Akitaro Daichi and Yoshiro Kataoka from Japan and Singapore’s Nickson Fong will talk about their latest works and share their experiences in producing creative, appealing and award-winning animation works. Details of the speakers are listed HERE!

Participants at the Symposium will also be the first outside Japan to get sneaks of Yoshiro Kataoka’s latest anime series, Zipang.

The winner of the Best Director at the Tokyo International Animation Fair 2002, Akitaro Daichi will then talk about his latest self-produced animation work, Makasete Iruka! which is the first Japanese animation to feature sign language.

Another highlight of the evening will be the unveiling of the latest animation projects by Singapore’s very own Nickson Fong. This will be the first public event that he is speaking at ever since his return from Hollywood to set up his own production company, Egg Story Creative Production Pte Ltd.

The CEO of the MDA, Dr Christopher Chia, said interest in the animation and special effects industry was increasing. “From comics to CGI works, the animation industry is new country waiting to be explored and developed. By organising AnimaXtion 04, the MDA wants to ignite the Singaporean passion for animation and inspire people to venture into and grow this up-and-coming industry. We see AnimaXtion 04 as the event to turn this vision into a reality.”
