We have listed these closed-down places here, where they will remain in our history books, in tribute to the contributions they have made to our lives here in Singapore. For the younger generation which may have no memories of these places, the buildings and places here remind them that every generation has its own familiar hangouts. The list here comprises buildings and places which have found a place in the hearts of their parents and grandparents.

     - The Neptune restaurant closes after 34 years in business

  Monday with the Editor: Red-brick National Library is no more

  National Stadium to be torn down and replaced with new Sports Hub by 2009

  The Colbar restaurant and two adjoining shops in Portsdown Road estate will be torn down to make way for a new road linking Queensway to the Ayer Rajah Expressway (AYE). Aside from the three shops, the Gloucester Archery Range and Field, and the Temasek Club's driving range will also have to go. (Straits Times 5 Feb 2003) (H1)

The National Library Building in Stamford Road would have to go, National Development Minister Mah Bow Tan told Parliament on 7 Mar 2000.

The Drama Centre in Fort Canning Hill will close on 15 Jul 2002. The centre will accept bookings until the end of May 2002. The closure is to facilitate the expansion of the Singapore History Museum. (Straits Times 29 Aug 2001) (L5)
