The new
10-storey National Library in Victoria Street will be
opened in 2005. The building, designed by
Malaysian architect Ken Yeang and costing S$200 million,
has an area of 60,000 sq m, six times bigger than the
present one in Stamford Road. It will have six storeys
of book-lined rooms, three basements, a cafe, a 400-seat
auditorium for concerts, and an open plaza. (Straits
